The Problem
It can be hard to adults to find others who share the same interests, especially when it comes to music taste. While apps exist for discovering concerts, there’s a lack of dedicated spaces for building social connections around those experiences. Many people go to shows alone or miss out on events entirely because they don’t have someone to go with.
The Solution
Bandwith is a social networking app that connects users through shared live music experiences. Discover nearby events, see who else is going, join event-based chats, and find other with similar music tastes. By combining event discovery with social interaction, the platform would make it easier for users to plan meet-ups, meet like-minded people, and build ongoing connections around the music they love.
Competitive Analysis
To see what was already out there, I compared and contrasted six existing platforms that focused on live music and event planning. (Fun fact: Radiate was the primary inspiration for Bandwith’s concept.)
Key Takeaways:
There is no single platform that exists that intersects event discovery, ticketing and social networking seamlessly. Radiate comes the closest, but only features EDM-centered events.
Event and ticketing platforms function well but are not personalized.
When social features are integrated, they are shallow. Radiate’s social features and interface are reminiscent of dating apps. Users usually go to external social networking platforms (Discord, Messenger) for chatting about events with others.
Group experiences are overlooked.
